What’s next on the list for the regeneration of London’s Historic Royal Docks?

The Albert Island development is set to take over a 25 acre site between Beckton and North Woolwich, with £300 million worth of investment already committed.

Hailed as a new ‘transport engineering hub’, the aim is to create a thriving and sustainable commercial, educational and innovation hub on the Thames and to provide a creative boost to the river environment and economy.

Through it’s diverse range of projects, the vision for the Albert Island development is built around six key features which are:

1. The construction of a new, state-of-the-art shipyard to service and repair Thames riverboats.

2. Establishing a “River Centre for London” connecting people with today’s modern working River Thames, its history and its natural environment through education, training and outreach activities.

3. Restoring full access to the Island for residents and visitors alike, regenerating the area’s natural river environment.

4. A hub for a mixed variety of businesses, with a focus on attracting additional talent and investment into the area.

5.  Full restoration and upgrading of the marina to create a fully functioning mooring location for boats on the Thames river.

6.  Creation of a Transport and Engineering Education Hub alongside an Innovation and Research Quarter, backed by local colleges and universities.
