Excel London shows support for Royal Docks Festival

Excel London continued its long-standing commitment to the city's Royal Docks this month by supporting its new cultural festival, launching with the world’s first ever ‘flavour rainbow’.

Backed by both the Mayor of Newham and the Mayor of London, the festival is part of a new vision for Royal Docks to be a major cultural quarter and marks the start of plans to nurture and support existing creative talent in the area.

To kick start the festival, the world’s first ever flavour rainbow was created with the help of local Newham school children who worked with artists to decide what the Royal Docks might ‘taste like’. This was then recreated in a sensorial exhibition where visitors could try for themselves.

In addition to CEO Jeremy Rees attending the launch, Excel helped promote the event to the wider community through its extensive digital signage network covering inside and outside the venue, including the Custom House DLR walkway.

Mayor of Newham and Co-chair of the Royal Docks Enterprise Zone Board, Rokhsana Fiaz OBE, said: “We are delighted to announce the plans to transform Royal Docks into London’s most exciting place for cultural and artistic production and the home for innovation and ideas across the Capital. With a vibrant and growing community in a borough that has the youngest population anywhere in the country and is the most diverse; we have a very rich creative culture with huge business potential.”
