Cleopatra: The Experience has become the latest immersive offering to open at Immerse LDN, Excel's waterfront entertainment district.
Featuring nine interactive galleries and running for a limited 15 weeks, Cleopatra: The Experience takes visitors on a captivating journey through Ancient Egypt as they uncover the secrets of Egypt’s last queen and explore her legacy, legend, love, lifestyle and beauty.
With a striking blend of 22 real Egyptian artefacts, cinematic projection technology, a state-of-the-art hologram, Virtual Reality, a free-roaming Metaverse, interactive installations and more, the experience brings one of history’s most fascinating figures vividly to life with one of the most ambitious and huge scale exhibitions in London.
Visitors begin their journey by discovering the story of the Ptolemaic Dynasty through an innovative hologram presentation. From the arrival of Alexander the Great and the founding of the dynasty to the final days of Ancient Egypt, this first opening room of the exhibition presents the complete historical arc of the Ptolemies, offering essential context to the life, reign and legacy of Queen Cleopatra.
The experience continues in the free-roaming Metaverse room where visitors put on Virtual Reality goggles and explore the catacombs of Alexandria, witness Alexander the Great’s coronation at the Siwa Oasis and step inside Mark Antony’s tent during the Battle of Actium, before entering Cleopatra’s royal chamber where she gazes across the Bay of Alexandria and the famous Lighthouse.
Alongside the cutting-edge digital storytelling, the experience showcases a curated selection of more than 22 original artefacts from the Hellenistic and Late Egyptian periods. Presented in collaboration with Barcelona’s Felix Cervera Archaeology Gallery, the collection includes terracotta sculptures, bronze deity figures such as Isis and Osiris, glass mosaic fragments, cosmetic vessels and a previously unpublished group of demotic papyri.
Dr. Chris Naunton, British Egyptologist, writer and broadcaster, and official ambassador for Cleopatra: The Experience, commented: “Cleopatra’s story is one of the richest and most vivid that we have from the ancient world. Her image and character have been reimagined countless times. What is so thrilling about this experience is that it is so immersive, but also that it takes into account the latest archaeological discoveries, and shows the audience a little of the ways in which we are able to say more and more about the real Cleopatra, based on the archaeology, rather than on Shakespeare or Hollywood’s version of events.”
Created by Madrid Artes Digitales (MAD) - the team behind hit experiences including Tutankhamun: The Immersive Exhibition, The Legend of the Titanic, and The Last Days of Pompeii - this is the latest of their must-see sensations to arrive in London. Over the past year alone, their shows have welcomed more than 420,000 visitors, wowing audiences with powerful storytelling and earning outstanding ratings of 4.6 out of 5* from over 22,000 reviews.
