Head of Event Management
Started at Excel: January 2013
Background: Following University, I spent ten years working in Bristol, until deciding to come to the bright lights of London. I decided to commit to the idea of moving to the Capital and got a flat with some friends, before even finding a job! I quickly interviewed for an amazing role at Excel London and the rest, as they say, is history.
Brief outline of your role: I am the go-to person for our clients once their event is contracted. My role is to make sure we have understood all the event requirements and what we need to do to make the event a success. I spend my time liaising with all our teams, from security to cleaning and traffic, to make sure we’re all working to the same plan for the event. I’ve been part of corporate showcase events such as Adobe Summit, enormous trade exhibitions such as World Travel Market and enthusiast festivals such as MCM Comic Con. I’d sum it up by saying it’s fun, hard work and fantastic practice for life as a puppeteer!
Excel highlight: Managing a wide portfolio of events brings a lot of unique challenges which feel great to overcome. The sheer variety of events that take place within the venue, from conferences like Sibos to massive exhibitions like ICE Totally Gaming makes every workday different.
Fun fact: I featured in the Pipettes video 'Pull Shapes', which charted at the lofty position of 26!
Venue Calendar Manager
Started at Excel: September 2014
Background: After completing my history degree and working part time in a coffee shop I began to really enjoy working with members of the public. This led me to my first role at Excel, working on the information desks where I was able to help with customer queries.
Brief outline of your role: I help to manage the event calendar, which includes scheduling events and plotting the appropriate space for our clients. I work closely with our Sales and Event Management teams to help keep everything organised, in terms of event planning.
Excel highlight: Seeing the venue buzzing with visitors has always been one of the highlights of working at Excel. The speed in which the boulevard can fill up on a busy event day is always staggering.
Fun fact: I am a trained barista and I’m currently learning to tap dance!
Head of Security
Started at Excel: January 2019
Background: After being in the Army for 9 years, I worked at Canary Wharf as the Estate Control Centre Manager and then as the Security Duty Manager. After 5 years, I was ready to move onto a new role, I saw a position become available at Excel and the rest is history!
Brief outline of your role: I manage the day-to-day security operation of the Excel estate, as well as the venue itself. The health, safety and wellbeing of everyone who visits our venue, is our number one priority.
Excel highlight: Being able to work as a part of a team. At Excel all departments work together, to achieve the best outcome for our customers and guests. You see people from across the business get involved in ensuring that every event is successful – that makes Excel a great company to work for.
Fun fact: Last year I decided to take up horse riding! As someone who isn’t a huge fan of driving, I am loving it. It still hurts though.
